New Apple Exclusive Reveals iPhone 14 Price Shock

Apple leak reveals that iPhone 14 Pro models will get multiple exclusive upgrades and higher prices. But now a new report claims that the standard iPhone 14 models will get a price bump despite remaining virtually unchanged from their predecessors.

Speaking to The Sun, Dan Ives, head of popular analyst group Wedbush Securities, cited the supply chain as the driving force behind the price hike.

“We believe a $100 price increase is coming for the iPhone 14,” Ives explained. “Costs are rising throughout the supply chain, and Cupertino needs to pass those costs on to consumers in this release.”

If correct, the iPhone 14 lineup would breakdown as follows:

  1. iPhone 14 – $899 (iPhone 13 $799)
  2. iPhone 14 Max – $999 (iPhone 13 Mini $699)
  3. iPhone 14 Pro – $1099 (iPhone 13 Pro $999)
  4. iPhone 14 Pro Max – $1199 (iPhone 13 Pro Max $1099)

While $100 will be a hit, especially for the standard models, which will sport the same design, rear camera and chipset as the iPhone 13, the entry point of the big financial hit range comes with a jump from $699 to $899. This nearly 30% increase led to Apple discontinuing the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 Mini in favor of a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max (also called ‘iPhone 14 Plus’), which pushed the iPhone 14 to the base model. location

07/16 Update: Now that the iPhone 14 range has started production, the leaks are not only accelerating but they’re adding a layer we haven’t seen before. Reliable anonymous leaker, ShrimpApplePro – the first leaker to reveal the new iPhone 14 Pro dual punch-hole redesign – has now revealed detailed schematics for the flagship iPhone 14 Pro Max via Weibo.

The headline news is that the schematics again back up a large number of leaks claiming that Apple will scrap the notch, though it’s expected to be retained for non-Pro models. That said, at this point, the more interesting information for me is the dimensions they reveal:

  1. iPhone 14 Pro Max – 160.71 x 78.78 x 7.85mm
  2. iPhone 13 Pro Max – 160.8 x 78.1 x 7.65 mm

While the differences are minor, they dispel a popular thought: Apple will use the same chassis for the iPhone 14 Pro models as their predecessors. Speculation about what those changes are will now accelerate.

I suspect the new 48-megapixel primary camera will be a significant factor for the exclusive Pro models. But hopes that larger batteries are behind the increase seem unlikely based on recent capacity leaks. Leaking season is well and truly open.

Such a ditch would cause real shock. It will be a hard sell. Historically, Apple has discounted previous generation iPhones after the launch of their successors. If Apple does it again, it would be a no-brainer to opt for the virtually identical iPhone 13 or even the iPhone 13 mini (which could be as low as $599).

There is a popular art counterpoint. That is, Apple will retain the iPhone 13 price for the iPhone 14, and the lack of an iPhone 14 Mini accounts for the $100 entry-level increase rather than the $200 gap discussed here. However, this does not account for supply chain price increases, so this may prove overly optimistic.

So should you upgrade? Throw in the red-hot rumor that iPhones will switch from Lightning to USB-C in 2023, and for me, I think that’s an upgrade year to forget unless you desperately need it. That said, based on the size of the supplier deposit, it looks like another super cycle regardless.
