Huawei brought its Nova 9 smartphone to Europe last month and introduced a new watch GT3 as well as a new TWS earphone called Huawei Freebuds Lipstick. The audio accessory comes with an interesting new design that really resembles lipstick, and we got a pair to test it to see if it has anything more than a great look.
There are hundreds of colors of lipstick in the cosmetics store but Huawei is offering earphones in just one shade, somewhere between Rojo and Cornell.
On the inside, the earphones are just like the Freebeds 4 – the design of the open ear, an ideal length of stem and even the battery capacity remains the same – 30 mAh in each bud, a further 410 mAh in the case. The difference here is the color and the unusual case.
The case consists of two parts – the bottom where the battery, a magnet, holes for the stalks, while the top has a passive lid with an extra magnet to give a tight seal. The left and right buds have dedicated slots, but they are very easy to confuse if you do not look at the case when inserting them.
You also need to look to make sure you’re adding the lid the right way – you need to actively look for visual clues, or there’s a 50% chance you’ll be misleading the top and it won’t just slide down
As we said the buds are self-explanatory and just like Freebees 4 they have a tendency to slip out of your ears when moving fast, but they are quite comfortable for long listening sessions when sitting still.
Which means the Huawei Freebeds Lipstick is basically the same pair of TWS headphones as the Freebuds 4, which is currently available for about half of the িপ 229 price of the lipstick. This means that the new pair of audiofiles will not be popular with the public.
But those who appreciate the very reasonable impression of lipstick must consider a clear unique accessory and the extra expense to start a conversation. With launch time we have no doubt that the Freebeds lipstick will also end up under a bunch of Christmas trees.
And knowing Huawei’s track record for the upcoming holiday season, the unique TWS earphones will appear in a variety of bundles and promos that will make them a significantly better deal.
